This original song by Eric Wrobbel refutes the “live fast, love hard, die young” philosophy. “It’s the worst ‘contribution’ of my generation,” he said in a 2004 interview that touched on this philosophy, and continued, “Have you ever looked at the costs of this ridiculous notion? How many great talents have we lost to it? How much great art and music simply does not exist because those talents didn’t survive long enough to create it?” He went on to decry the continued popularity of the notion: “It has been repackaged today as ‘x-treme,’ and is being vigorously sold to us still.”
This disarmingly wise little song makes the case for the opposite, especially as it relates to materialism. Though "sweet" is hardly a compliment in today’s music world, this song is that. With heart. Give a listen.
