Awesome Packard Bell Transistor Radio
In my Global/Zephyr book I talk about a
particular Japanese radio manufacturer who made some of the greatest of
the early Zephyrs. That same manufacturer made this absolutely
stunning Packard Bell. It even has the
same knob and earphone configuration as the Zephyr AR-600. Can you
guess the manufacturer? This great
Packard Bell has no model number that I could ever find other than a
TSR-5901 number on the circuit board. As with the Zephyr, the unusual
dial configuration necessitates a vertical placement of the ferrite
antenna inside. But the star of this radio is the styling, and
especially the curvy inset plastic grille. Note that even the back of
this radio is stylish--look at those louvres off to the right side. The
radio is 4 1/4" tall. And
the manufacturer? Aiwa.

radios.
