A Mystery Radio like the Regency TR-1
OK, it's not THAT much like a Regency TR-1,
but there are some similarities. Maybe you can help me figure out what
I've
got here. If I had the tuning knob, I might know more than I do, but
then maybe not. This appears to be a commercially-made transistor
radio, possibly a kit. It's 3 inches by 5 inches. The cabinet is a
painted fiberglass or similar material. The board inside is made of
this same material, unpainted, and is not a printed circuit. There are
a couple of electrolytic capacitors with the name "Selkar" on them. The
R/C tuning cap is dated mid-September, 1954, but of course that only
tells us when the cap was made, not necessarily the radio. The
sockets that (I assume) contained transistors are empty. Similarities
to the Regency TR-1, the world's first commercial transistor radio,
include the size, the tuning cap, and the
Jensen speaker.
It's nice to
have a mystery in my collection, but it's nice to learn too. So if you
know anything about this mystery radio, let me know. If not, well then
just enjoy the mystery!
