Tinytone TT-1 Pocket Radio
Oh man! The Tinytone TT-1 Pocket Radio is a
terrific pre-transistor radio from the early '50s. There's one tube
and an ingenious string-driven tuning mechanism. The earphone element is
inside the
radio, with a rubber-like tube attached to it that delivers the sound
to your ear. Uses a 1 1/2 volt battery and a 30 volt battery. Patent
notice inside claims coverage for "combinations of tube and transistor
circuitry," but there is no transistor, only the single tube and very
little else (a tuning coil and slug, a transformer, a volume
control, the earphone element, one resistor, and three capacitors).
From Western Electronics, aka Western Manufacturing of Kearney,
Nebraska. They made some great crystal radios too under the Tinytone
name, as well as names like Pakette, Midget, Pee Wee, Ti-Nee, and
Tinymite. Their crystal radios are smaller than this Tinytone TT-1, and
appear in a range of attractive and colorful designs which you'll see
in my books "Toy
Crystal Radios" and "Toy Crystal Radios Volume 2."

radios and transistor radios.
